Balanced on Purpose

DAY 4 OF 10

Your Health Cow

The second Cow in our metaphor is our health. Most people take their health for granted until they get sick, or grow old. Then we realise that our health is such a resource. As part of the integrated system of our life, health plays such an important role in our life and when we don’t look after it, ill health can stand in the way of many other areas of our life.

The Bible in 1 Corinthians 6:19 says that “Your body is the temple of God’s Spirit". It is a vehicle through which God achieves His intended purpose for your life. We have an obligation to look after this temple well if we want God to use it. God cannot use a body that is falling apart. Therefore we need to take good stewardship of our bodies.

There are three things that are critical to our health.

Food and Water.

According to Exodus 23: 25, what we eat and drink will have a major effect on our health. Eating healthy and drinking the right things, especially a lot of water will enhance our health

Exercise

Exercise is another area that is a swear word for some people. We need to keep active. Our modern lifestyles have drastically reduced the number of calories we burn during the day as we do our normal day to day activities. In the past people walked to work, most of their work required physical application. Today we sit in our cars as we drive to work. We spent almost the whole day sitting in front of a computer or desk doing work.

Rest

God created a system that requires rhythms of rest and work. We need to rest and then work. Not work and then rest. Have resting cycles built into your day, week, month and year.

Prayer: Dear Lord help me to have the right attitude towards your temple. Help me to understand how I can keep this temple healthy for your habitation and use. Amen
