The Devotional to End All DevotionalsSample
To get all the nutrients out of food, you have to chew it. To get all the truth from a passage of scripture, you have to meditate on it. Now, many religions promote meditation, but the kind of meditation that God tells us to do is different than any other. God doesn’t want you to empty your mind or to concentrate on words spoken by man. He wants you to meditate, or think about, His Word, the Bible, as you go about your day, allowing your mind to explore what you have studied and see how you might apply it as you go.
God often comforts and guides His children by reminding them of things they read in the Bible. The more you read, the more vocabulary He has to work with. When you go the extra mile and actually memorize scripture, you increase the chances of your hearing exactly what you need to hear from Him right when you need to hear it.
Life is a challenging journey, make sure your bags are packed with helpful truth.
Use the God Follower method to study today’s passages.
- What does this passage tell me about God?
- What does this passage tell me about being a follower of God?
Now try memorizing a verse. Choose a verse from today’s passages that stood out to you. Write it down. Read it out loud ten times. After each reading, look away and see if you can say it from memory. If you’re having trouble, write it down several more times and repeat the process. If you need to, break it into sections, repeat the process, and then recombine them. This method of scripture memory addresses all learning styles and should work with practice over time. Use it anytime you discover a verse that you think would be helpful to remember.
You may find it helpful to find a scripture memory buddy who will quiz you from time to time.
Thank God for communicating with you through the Bible.
