God's Story Is Our Story: From Acts to New CreationSample
Sometimes in the name of living for eternal values, the heavenly kingdom, or for the spiritual world, Christians have practiced or endorsed a kind of asceticism. The physical world is seen as bad. The body is seen as a prison for the soul that causes us to sin. We think it spiritual to find no joy in the physical world. Paul not only considers that false teaching but demonic teaching.
Paul says that God has created the world and therefore it is good. When we label the things that God has made as being bad or evil, we are offending the one who made it! The problem is not physical stuff. The problem is in our hearts. This causes us to misuse the good stuff that God has made.
Paul is not encouraging a hedonistic indulgence. Paul is encouraging a right stewardship of what God has given us. We are to be thankful. We are to let the word and prayer guide us in how to use what he has entrusted to us. We are to find joy in using what he has given us.
Paul's point for us is that joy is found in the proper use of the good things God has given us.

About this Plan
Make God’s story your story. In this plan, we pick up the story after the resurrection. We highlight three themes through daily scripture readings, Bible Project videos, and original devotions: 1) Jesus as the message and mission of the church. 2) The scope of that mission to all nations and all of creation 3) God’s surprising grace in the face of human evil.
