A LIFE OF BLESSING

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

What do we do when we go through a stressful day, dealing with people who are against us? David was one who faced enemies from within and without on the path to being what God wanted him to be.

No matter how stressful our day, the Lord lightens it by waiting for us with a good spread. He prepares the table. It is important for us to realise that the Lord prepares the table in the presence of our enemies. The battle is on. The enemies are on one side. But we cross over to participate in the spread that the Lord has prepared. It is comforting, assuring and refreshing to be in the presence of the Lord. The Lord is there. He anoints our head with oil. He knows what we need in the presence of our enemies who witness what is happening. They see that the Lord is on our side and He is the one who prepares the table. He anoints our head with oil.

With the enemy on the other side of the battle field, the soldier if he eats at all, sometimes a large, tasty meal and away he hastens to the fight. But let us observe that the Lord prepares the table and the soldier in the midst of enemies, sets out without fear and with confidence and peace. The daily enjoyment of the blessing and fresh stock for every day’s duty happens when he anoints the head with oil.

The blessing in the midst of a draining situation. This is a comforting thought for us. The battle may be severe, the people around us will add to the affliction. But there is a table that is spread for us and the Lord wants us to participate in this table.

As we go through a stressful day, let us remember that the Lord is preparing a table for us in the presence of our enemies for us to come and be refreshed and strengthened.

No matter how severe the battle, let us be motivated to continue in His presence and to know that the Lord prepares a table for us before our enemies.

It is comforting to know that we will be participating in the banquet which the Lord has prepared for us.

No valley is small and difficult to keep my Lord away from spreading the table for me.
