A Moment With God

DAY 36 OF 61

IT IS NOT HORSE POWER

Very often we hear people saying that if only they had the willpower, they would be able to kick a bad habit. There is nothing called WILLPOWER. It is our WILL and His POWER. We need to have the desire and the will and rely on Hi. Let us not look for shortcuts. Psalm 20 portrays the picture of an active God who is ever ready to answer us when we call. It is not horsepower but trust in God's power which is more powerful. It is dependence, obedience and confidence.

  •  v1, 6 - God who answers us in the day of trouble
  •  v1 - defends us
  •  v3 - sends help from the sanctuary
  •  v2 - strengthens us
  •  v3 - remembers our requests
  •  v4 - grants us according to our desires
  •  v4 - fulfills our purposes
  •  v5 - fulfills all our petitions
  •  v6 - saves His anointed

We have a God who is absolutely active. Not a passive God. A God who is wanting and willing to work in and through us. He is a mighty God, an awesome God, a prayer answering God and our personal God.

Why do people put their trust on chariots and horses and not on God?

  • We are ignorant of what the Lord can do in our life and situation. We have heard but do not have a personal experience.
  • We are impatient in waiting for the Lord to act. We are human and busy. We want things to happen immediately. We panic and worry if we don't get immediate answers.
  • We are impulsive in following what others do. Our actions are based on advice that is ungodly.
  • We are inquisitive to do things outside the will of God. We just want to see if it works. We swing to the other side leaving God out.

The Bible says there is a clear difference. Those who put their trust on chariots and horses bow down and fall. But those who remember the name of the Lord, those who put their trust on the Lord rise up and stand firm.

Have we deliberately ignored the Lord and put our trust on other things? Have we been impatient in waiting for the Lord to answer? Are we trying to manipulate God's answer in our lives? Have we followed the crowd and let go of God?

Chariots and horses indicate strength and power that the kings relied on. But those who trust on the Lord will rely on Him. Our faith is not dependent on horse power but how much of God's power we are dependent on. He is more than able.

It is not why in trusting God, it is try in trusting God.
