The Book Of John In SongSample
John 2
It is easy to get caught up in the fascination of water being turned to wine, but three things in this story that can be easily overlooked, remind us of some very important principles.
In verse 3, Mary (Jesus’ mother), came to Jesus with a problem. It wasn’t Jesus’ problem, it wasn’t even Mary’s problem, but He responded with His love and power.
As followers of Jesus, when we come to Him with our own problem or on behalf of someone else, He hears us and He will respond.
In verse 7, Jesus instructed the servants to fill the jars with water. Why did he do that? He could have made the wine just suddenly appear, but He asked them to participate in His miraculous work. Jesus doesn’t want to be a lone performer; He wants us to be in relationship with Him and participate in His good and amazing work.
In verse 9, the host of the banquet didn’t “realize where [the wine] had come from.” How often do we miss God’s work in and around us? If we keep our eyes open and our hearts responsive, we will see God working far more often, and in different ways, than we often recognize.
PRAYER
Dear Jesus,
Help me to see your work that is right in front of me. Let me participate in your good works, and please give me faith to ask for your help so miracles can happen in my life and in the lives of my family and friends. Amen.
