The Fight for Change
So many people know they have to change but they don’t know how.
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 says,
Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (NKJV)
Christianity is an ‘unveiled’ religion. The veil represents the things that hold us back from change; things like fear, guilt, unbelief and so on. But the good news is that when you are in Christ, you are being transformed – changed – like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. We cannot see ourselves the way God sees us, nevertheless we must allow ourselves to change. It is a process of progress - we are works in progress. We can trust God with the transformation of our life because He has the blueprint for our own unique design.
So, how does God change us? He does it in three ways: by the renewing of our mind, by the Holy Spirit and by His grace. The key is to allow His transformation to work in your life. We are saved by grace but we are changed by choice. We have to continue to make right choices, every day, one after the other, aligning our lives with His plan and purpose for us.
In what defining ways have you changed?
There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself. (Heb 13:7-8 MSG)
Our one hope is in the One Who never changes: Jesus. That’s why our hope of change is to become consistently more like Him.
