Dare To Ask

DAY 7 OF 10

The Desert Cry

Hosea and Gomer. A love story that dances between two stories; a human narrative of Hosea and his unfaithful wife Gomer, and its prophetic counter part between God and His unfaithful people, Israel.

The most famous verse in this story is the mysterious oxymoron of God “alluring” Israel to the desert.

The word ‘allure’ means to woo or entice, there is a romantic connotation to this word.

Why does God pursue us all the way into the desert?

Isn’t the desert a place of death, drought and unbearable heat?

In the desert there are no pretenses, no excuses, we are confronted with the reality of our naked, unmasked lives. Sometimes it can be a shock to see what a masquerade our reality really has been. There are no competing sounds, no distractions, and we are forced to grapple with whatever we see in ourselves.

The season in the desert is a necessary time of acute sharpening, a time of readying us for the next season in our lives.

The promises that come to those who are allured to the desert are bountiful and truly wonderful! There is a promise of fruitfulness (Hosea 2:15), we will be renewed and restored.

Maybe it’s time to stop dreading the desert times, and start embracing them as the greatest of privileges. We can be encouraged that God has more for us, He has new things for us, when we are willing to go through the preparation that is necessary for the next season.

Do you dare to ask for the desert seasons?
