Women of the Bible

DIA 29 DE 30

Abigail

Have you ever found yourself dealing with the consequences of someone else's choices? You are not alone. Abigail was one of those women as well. Abigail was known for being intelligent (CSB), discerning (ESV), a woman of good understanding (NKJV), and beautiful. In contrast, her husband's name was Nabal, which means "fool," and that is what he was.

Abigail was a woman of wisdom and action. When she heard what her husband had done and that her household was in danger, she quickly set out to meet David. Because she acted in wisdom, her family was spared. David and his men were ready to bring destruction to the house of Nabal. Instead, he blessed the LORD for sending Abigail and sent her "home in peace."

Abigail displays many of the attributes we see in Proverbs 31; a virtuous woman who speaks with wisdom and fears the LORD. This is the source of beauty that never fades. Women of wisdom are found throughout the Bible; look to see which ones you identify with.

1. How can you and I be women who walk in wisdom?

2. How can our actions bring peace to our homes instead of destruction?

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the example of Abigail. May we rise as women who fear you, walk in wisdom, and bring peace to our homes. -Amen
