Who Am I?Exemplo
Day 5: Walking in Confidence and Purpose
Now that we know more of who we are in Christ, it’s more important than ever that we walk it out in our day to day. But where to start?
A well-known verse is Jeremiah 29:11. While we can see it as a promise for the future, it’s also the promise of who God is, a reminder that He is good, and if He is good then who we are, and our whole future is safe in His hands.
1 Corinthians 6:20 tells us we are valuable – bought at a price. 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Galatians 2:20 say that that price, paid by Christ’s death on the cross, means that whatever we have done or thought in the past is now finished with. We can throw off the old and enter the new, our faith in our beautiful Saviour, Jesus, enables us to live out our new life.
But there is more to living out our new identities than ‘just’ what God has already done. Philippians 1:6 gives us the assurance that God will complete the good work He started. Not only did God step in with a rescue plan to save us from our sin, but He walks with us step by step as we live out our new identity in Christ! What a promise!
Our new identity comes with a mission attached, a responsibility even, that as we walk out a God-centered life, we become a beacon to those around us who don’t yet know Christ. Our righteous lives show the goodness, and the kindness of God and attract others towards Him. If that sounds daunting, we can remind ourselves of 2 Timothy 1:7 – that 'God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’ (KJV). In 2 Peter 1:3 we are exhorted that God’s power ‘has given us everything we need for life and godliness’ – remember - He equips us as He has called us!
Whatever truths or lies we have heard or believed about ourselves, our value, or our worth, I hope this devotional has shown you that you can weigh and measure it all by Scripture. Full of the truth you can base your identity in, it’s the ultimate heavenly guide for our lives. But as Moses pronounced to the Israelites in Deuteronomy, God sets the choice before us. He gives us all we need to live a confident, purposeful, Godly life, (firstly through the law, now through Jesus), but it is down to us to choose the path we will walk out.
Prayer:
Lord, as I understand more of the truths you say about me, I choose today to throw off the lies I’ve taken on about who I am. I'm sorry for where I haven’t believed that I am your splendid, purposeful design. I choose the way of life again today; I choose to believe what you say about me through your word. Help me to daily soak up the life-giving truth of your word, and to brush off comparison and lies of the enemy. Thank you that you empower and equip me to live a live marked by your righteousness.
Through my Saviour, your son, Jesus, Amen.
