Promises for the Journey

You are not alone

I have a young daughter who still struggles with sleeping in her bed at night. The challenge she faces is the sense of being alone. This makes her nervous and fearful because, in her mind, when she is in her bedroom, it separates her from the security of mommy’s and daddy’s presence.

Believe it or not, we are not much different from my daughter, and Satan knows it. One of the greatest lies from the devil and sometimes from people around you is you are all alone.

Have you ever felt these whispers or thoughts in your head or heart?

- You are all by yourself.

- God has forgotten about you.

- Nobody cares about you.

- You are not worth anything.

- If God really cared, this would never have happened.

- I thought God was with you, but where is he now?

These types of thoughts magnify the feeling of being alone. The only problem with them is they are not true. When thoughts like these try to fill your heart and mind, you must combat them with the truth and promises from God’s word.

Here are some great verses to memorize.

Psalm 27:10 - Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.
Deut. 31:8 - The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Matthew 28:20 - Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
John 14:16-17 - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

Did you notice something about these promises? In case you missed it, here it is. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit all promised they will never leave you. Here is what that means for you.

There will never be a time, space, or moment in your life when you are alone. God will always be with you. This does not mean that you are always going to “feel” his presence, even though many times you will.

In the moments when you don’t feel him, then you must have faith in him. Know by faith that he is walking with you because that is what he promised you. The last time I checked, God has an exemplary track record of keeping his promises.

Regardless of the situation you are facing right now, you can walk into it with confidence because God is with you, and he will never leave you alone.

Affirmation - I know I am never alone. Wherever I go and whatever circumstance I face, God will always go with me.
