JESUS THE ADVOCATE, ALPHA, ALMIGHTY, AND THE AMEN

Today we will alphabetically begin studying the many names of Jesus. Each title has a meaning, and by the end of the Advent study, all these meanings will form the character of the God we serve. The God of the Trinity.

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew name for God is ‘Adonai,’ meaning Lord or Master.

Although since the translation has been made to Lord or Master, you won’t see the actual original name in the Bible, yet, it is one of His beautiful names.

"My dear children, I write this to you so you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an 'advocate' with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One." I John 2:1

Jesus, the “Advocate!” The Greek word is parakletos. An advocate is a person who comes to our aid or pleads our case to a judge. Advocates offer us support, strength, counsel, and intercede when necessary. The word is used five times in the Bible.

"I am 'Alpha' and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the 'Almighty."Revelation 1:8

Jesus is referred to as “Almighty” in Revelation 1:8. In that same verse, He is called the “Alpha!” There is a beautiful song written called El Shaddai.” That is the Hebrew meaning of “The Almighty.” It means God is all-powerful and controls everything He created in the universe. “Alpha’ in the Greek Alphabet is the ‘first’ and is at the beginning, which is a perfect description of Jesus, for Jesus was with God in the beginning!

Jesus is also called the ‘Amen.’

"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the 'Amen,' the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God." Revelation 3:14.

The name, ‘Amen,’ also used at the end of prayers or to support truth, indicates that Jesus is God’s perfect and final revelation.

LET US PAUSE:

Jesus the Alpha always was with God from the beginning of time (John 1:1), and He came as your Advocate; Almighty One! He is our Amen! Today on the first day of Advent, let us pause from the busyness of life and honor these names that are only a fraction of Jesus’s character. Today think of things you need for Him to be your Advocate.
