Drawn - Moses Objects

In the very beginning of Moses life, we see God’s hand on him. His parents hid him as an infant for fear that Herrod’s decree would cause his death. They were then compelled to put him in a basket in the Nile River where a palace princess found him and drew him out of the water. What are the odds that he would be found and much less by someone from the palace? She knew he was a Hebrew child and yet, wanted him as her own son.

According to the Torah, the name "Moses" comes from the Hebrew verb, meaning "to pull out/draw out" [of water], and the infant Moses was given this name by Pharaoh's daughter after she rescued him from the Nile. (Exodus 2:10)

Moses grows up in the palace as a royal. A Hebrew growing up as a royal… let that sink in. It was the Egyptian’s practice to enslave the Hebrews and treat them as less than human. God had a plan. He not only had Moses’ parents hide him, then put him in a wicker basket to escape slaughter, he also is rescued by a princess from that water.

In Christian terms, we can understand that a still, small voice compels humans to do these things. Then, obedience follows. We are God’s hands and feet on the earth and without obedience it is difficult for His will to be accomplished. At the very least it delays things until one of His servants takes up the cause. When the compelling of God’s still, small voice is met with obedience, His plan flows without interruption. So, Moses is drawn in many ways.

In this same chapter in Exodus, we see him drawn to view the Hebrew people as his own and feeling loyalty to them. That’s the fervor that God needs to see in him in order to accomplish His ultimate will for Moses’ life – bringing the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt!

“I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I am come down to deliver them: and now come, I will send thee into Egypt.” (Acts 7:34)

“What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? In verse 10: Then Moses said to the LORD, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” (Exodus 4:1)

Reflection

What is God drawing you to? Have you had that sense of God’s voice compelling you to action and yet you haven’t obeyed? Why do you object?

Listen to that voice and proceed so the Father’s ultimate plan in your life can be accomplished!

Moses, a Man of God's Power

Moses is credited with writing the first five books of the Bible, and manifesting some of the greatest miracles ever recorded during his lifetime. This devotional is the first in a series that explores the characteristics of powerful, biblical men that God used to not only write down His words but also to exhibit His very power on the earth. This plan was written by April Knoke.
