RecalibrateExemplo
ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
The use of Drugs and Alcohol is extremely prevalent in Today’s society – from family gatherings to Netflix and Instagram, we are surrounded by a society that idolizes alcohol. So as a Christian, how are we to respond? Can we use Alcohol in such a way that redeems it for Christ?
There are numerous examples of The Bible speaking about the use of Alcohol in the context of weddings, celebrations and festivals (John 2:1-3). However, not commonly known is the fact that there are some mentions of alcohol being a part of the daily life (2 Chronicles 11:11, Matthew 11:19). What is very clear is the strong stance of Jesus when it comes to Drunkenness (Luke 21:34, Galatians 5:21). This command can potentially lead to a grey area among believers who are living a legalistic life (what classifies drunkenness?). However, the decision of what to drink and how much to drink should never be made based on anything else but in intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit and a desire to bringing Glory and Honor to God.
The Christian is called to use their life as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) in order to serve and bring glory to God. Therefore, we must seek to respect and honor the body that has been gifted to us as an act of Grace by our God (1 Cor 6:19-20). These daily decisions are not made on our own, rather we believe that the Holy Spirit intercedes with our feelings in order that we ‘have the mind of Christ’ (1 Corinthian 2). However, we have the decision to submit to the prompting of the spirit or not. Too often, our decisions when it comes to drugs and alcohol are dictated by the people around us and not by the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
Imagine a life that was dictated by the workings of the Holy Spirit. Imagine, the intimacy and connection with Christ himself if this was the case. This can be your reality – a life where God is truly your heavenly father and you will do anything to honour and please Him. Today, let words of The Bible wash over you as you contend for an intimate relationship that dictates your daily decisions.
