Thru the Gospel of John

Dia 7 de 21

Jesus invites you to receive true life.

After Jesus describes Himself as the Bread of Life, He prepares His disciples for their last Passover together, the basis for the Lord’s Supper we observe today.

Jesus teaches in the synagogue that this remembrance of the Lord’s Supper includes eating and drinking His flesh and blood. What he means by this is that we should remain in His Spirit, but at that time, the people did not understand this yet and Jesus hadn’t explained it fully yet. People react four different ways.

  • Some said, “This is too hard to hear” and stopped following Jesus.
  • Some following Him never believed and turned away as well.
  • Some in the crowd were hostile religious leaders hoping to trap Jesus.
  • And Jesus’ own 12 disciples, including Judas, were completely confused by His teaching. However they did not turn away: “Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

What an insightful response. Many wonder today if the Lord Jesus is really the Savior. The question must be asked: Where else are you hoping to find life? Jesus is the only one who can do that.

Next, Jesus showed up in Jerusalem at the temple to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. Everyone marveled at how He taught. Such authority! Such insight! However, Jesus is aware that some religious leaders want to kill Him.

Jesus invites anyone and everyone to Himself who wants to investigate if God is really good. The wonder of God’s Word is, if you’re willing, God will make His truth real to you.

Jesus made it clear He was sent by God. Some believed in Him; others dismissed Him. The leaders were furious, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.

On the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles Jesus cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (7:37). You want real water? “Come to Me,” He said.

“If anyone…” - that means you! Thirsty? Need refreshing? Then get to Jesus. Come to Him and receive Him as your Savior.

Next, we’ll see how Jesus treated a woman caught in bed

Question: Sometimes, we get hungry or thirsty again, if we don’t let Jesus satisfy us. What areas of your life do you need to give to Jesus (again)?
