The Uniqueness of JesusPrzykład
The Coming King
Do you have that one friend or family member who loves Christmas? I’m talking about the person who is so excited about Christmas that they buy gifts in August, put up decorations in September, and listen to Christmas songs in October.
While I don’t quite fit that description, I get why people are like this. There is such a great anticipation surrounding Christmas and all that it entails!
Anticipation is defined as ‘a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen in the near future,' or ‘to be in preparation for something to happen.' Isn’t this so true of those who love Christmas?
Did you know that Jesus’ arrival on earth was also greatly anticipated? The Jews eagerly awaited the coming of the Messiah: the one who would lead them, deliver them, and be their King. With passages like Isaiah 9:6-7, it’s easy to see why they were so excited for Him to come!
At the heart of this passage is a description of the most unique King and Kingdom there will ever be.
#1. A Divine King and Kingdom
Unlike the kings, governments, and kingdoms of this world which are human in nature, King Jesus is the ‘child’ or the ‘son’ of God. He is divine in nature. His rule and His reign reflect the heart and will of Father God. He is dependable and faithful, always serving and leading His people in love.
Look at the four titles given to Jesus: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. There is so much majesty and beauty about our King Jesus!
#2. An Everlasting King and Kingdom
Unlike the kings, governments, and kingdoms of this world which change so often and are so easily torn down or overthrown, King Jesus’ kingdom will last forever. It will not be shaken and it will not be removed. It will not rise momentarily and then fall, but it will remain. We can have full assurance and security in this.
#3. A King and Kingdom with a New Order
Unlike the kings, governments, and kingdoms of this world, King Jesus’s kingdom is built on peace, justice, and righteousness. In His Kingdom there is no anguish, injustice, or unrighteousness.
The Bible tells us that this beautiful passage will be fulfilled when Jesus returns to earth (Revelation 20:4-6; Zechariah 14:6-21). So, this Christmas, would you turn your gaze to your incredible King Jesus? Would you allow His coming return to fill you with excitement? Would you wait in anticipation for Him?

Prayer
King Jesus,
How wonderful You are and how wonderful Your Kingdom is! I give you all the praise God, for You are the most incredible King we could ever hope for. Thank You that Your Kingdom reflects the Father’s heart, that it will be everlasting, and that it will be full of peace, justice, and righteousness.
Fill me with joy, excitement, and anticipation for Your return, when all of this will come to pass in its fullness.
In Your precious name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
