In the Last Days, Perilous Times Will Come [A Study of 2nd Timothy 3:1-5]

Day 1 - Introduction

How many times have you flipped through Paul’s second epistle to Timothy and seen the words, “In the last days, perilous times will come…”? It’s there in 2nd Timothy 3:1. Right? But how profound is that warning to us as believers today? I tell you that this warning is even more solemn today than it was at the time when the epistle was written. Why? Because the second coming of Jesus is nearer than ever before. Let’s read the scripture and break it down into the subsequent topics.

[1] “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: [2] For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, [4] traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, [5] having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” - 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NKJV)

According to the scripture above, all the various characteristics of people that would be manifest in these last days are because of men’s attitudes, not any demon or the devil. So that means there are evil men in today’s generation. And unfortunately, some even fraternize with Christians in the church, pretending to be brethren in Christ. That is why Paul tells us to turn away from such people (2 Timothy 3:5). Let’s break down each of these attitudes in the subsequent days of this plan.
