1 John

Dzień 6 z 24

In these verses, John encourages us to see how simple the Gospel truly is! In verse 12, he starts by reminding us of Jesus’ sacrifice, that he has covered all of our sins. In fact, John tells us this is the number one reason why he is writing this letter! While John covers many topics throughout this letter, it all points back to one thing -- Jesus.

We can often get distracted and sidetracked in our relationship with God with theology, spiritual formations, or even our daily practices. Now, hear me say that these are not bad things. They can be transformational in our relationship with Jesus! But they should always point us back to the simple Gospel. Let us never forget our “why.” Why we go to church, serve on the Dream Team, and read our Bible. It’s all because of Jesus.

John describes who he is writing this to -- plot twist: it’s everyone! I love these verses because they show us the Bible is inclusive of all people, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey. Whether you just started following Jesus or have known Him your whole life, there is something in these pages for you!

Finally, John shows us that these believers of all walks of life are strong and steady in their faith because of their commitment to God’s Word. The Word of God is our strongest defense against our daily struggles -- finding time in the Word is crucial. It gives us strength, power, and encouragement for our day. The Message translation states, “Your fellowship with God enables you to gain a victory.”

Let these verses encourage you today in the simplicity of the Gospel. You are forgiven in Jesus’ name!
