Unrelenting Perseverance
Any new endeavor we undertake may cause us to face a lot of opposition, but we are called to persevere. People, even those close to us, may try to discourage us. We may often lose interest in standing firm for our principles amid the opposition for many reasons, such as laziness, fear of standing alone, etc.
Forming a habit can be a challenge initially. For any life rule to become a habit, we need to persevere. It will help if we keep our life rule(s) where they are visible to us at all times. List them out, keep them in front of you, and perform them as many times as possible during the day, until it becomes a habit. Ask yourself at the end of the day, ‘Did I do what I set out to do today?’ Since we get what we expect – always expect the best of yourself because success is always rooted in great expectations.
I had an opportunity to work with a boss who gave much importance to learning at least one new thing every day at work. If on any day, he has nothing to note down in his book, he would go online and get some nugget of new information/lesson and write it down. He made it a point never to leave the office without performing this exercise. As a result, he was known as a person of great intelligence, and people approached him with all kinds of problems he helped resolve.
Standing up to do what is right may get you in a lot of trouble with the management at first, but if you persevere, people will finally see you as a person of principle and would respect you for the same thing they stood against in the beginning. But, even if this doesn’t happen, stick to your rule, and our Father in Heaven will be pleased, as ultimately, He is the One Whom we strive to please.
Lord, bless me with Your grace to move past the obstacles that hinder me and give me Your strength and wisdom in everything I do.

Greatness is achieved by living a life of discipline, and discipline is not achieved without rules. This stimulating study reminds us that it comes down to our choices. We have to give up our old, disarrayed life and live a disciplined, structured life. It does not happen at a moment’s notice – it’s a lifelong process.
