Central Asia Region

Central Asia is the region of Asia that stretches from the Caspian Sea in the west to western China and Mongolia. It includes the former Soviet Republics, which are colloquially referred to as the—stans—the countries whose names end with this Persian suffix meaning land of. Central Asia is historically closely tied to the Silk trade routes, acting as a crossroads for the movement of people, goods, and ideas between Europe and the Far East.

Islam is the religion most common in the Central Asian Republics, although the Russian Orthodox Church has a significant presence. The migration of people from the East has brought Confucianism, Taoism, Mahayana Buddhism, and other Chinese folk beliefs into the region.

Although much of Central Asia is unreached by the Gospel, there is good news! Church movements are growing, and para-church organizations and other Christian networks are reaching the people of this region for Christ. Let’s boldly pray as the Holy Spirit is strategically moving in this area of the world like never before, and many people are opening their hearts to the Gospel.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Pray for the stability of the entire region.
• Pray that unreached people would receive dreams, visions, and encounters with the Lord so that Jesus would be understood as the Son of God and Emmanuel—God with us.
• Pray for the Gospel to flow through the historic Silk Road.
• Pray for Central Asian believers to experience the Holy Spirit’s overflow, igniting a deep hunger and desire for God’s Word and His presence. Ask for the continued momentum of the church and para-church organizations that are taking place and for multitudes to receive salvation in Christ by faith.
• In Jesus' Matchless Name, come against the multiple religious strongholds in the region—that the liberating message of Jesus Christ would bring freedom from Islam’s oppressive servitude, the lie of shamanism that requires a never-ending chase for righteousness, and the escape of Eastern religions’ deception.

Dear Heavenly Father...I bring to You in prayer the lands of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the surrounding regions. You created these nations, their languages, cultures, and traditions. I pray a blessing over them for peace, unity, and prosperity. I ask, Lord, that Your love and power in the Holy Spirit touch the hearts of all the inhabitants of these countries with a holy hunger to know You. I pray for those laborers, churches and their leaders, and para-church organizations to have continued open doors and creative ways to present You to every heart. Lord, pour out Your goodness upon Central Asia, that Your will be done in every corner of this beautiful land. In the Ineffable Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen!
