Spiritual Warfare

DAY 2 OF 5

Twisted Words

How does the enemy spiritually attack us?

A major way the enemy (or Satan) schemes against us is by using “God’s words.” I put that in quotes because, as you’ll see in the story we will read today, he will claim they are God’s words when, in reality, they aren’t.

When Jesus is faced with the enemy, literally face to face, he is put to the test of His knowledge of God’s word. The enemy quotes scripture to Jesus and tries to get Him to stumble, but Jesus has a response each time. His rebuttal against the enemy is God’s true word, not a false or manipulative version. The enemy will twist and morph the Word of God into whatever he thinks might get your attention.

If the enemy’s greatest weapon is twisting God’s word, then what is our best defense?

Knowing God’s word.

We have to keep God's word (Bible verses, passages, and stories) in our hearts. For example, if I were taste-testing candy blindfolded, I would have a better chance of correctly identifying the candy if I tried it first. So, I know a Reese’s Cup is chocolate and peanut butter, while Skittles are chewy, fruit-flavored candy. In other words, if we want to be able to identify God's truth among the enemy's lies, we have to KNOW God and His word. We must memorize it, hide it in our hearts, and saturate our minds. We need to fill every part of ourselves with His truth.

Question to Ponder:

How are you making sure you know God’s word?

The series dives into topics like the spiritual realm (heaven and earth), spiritual beings (like angels, demons, and Satan), spiritual warfare (the what and how of it), and finally, the Armor of God (how we stand against the devil's schemes). In part three, we unpack the idea of Spiritual warfare, what it is, how it works, and how we can be prepared.
