7-Day Devotional: Torn Between Two Worlds – Embracing God’s Gifts Amid Unmet Longings

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5: The “Already” and the “Not Yet”

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:1
"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands."

As Christians, we live in the tension of the “already” and the “not yet.” We experience God’s grace, love, and provision here and now, but we also anticipate the full realization of His promises in the life to come. The “already” is the glimpse of the Kingdom of God we experience on earth, while the “not yet” is the longing for the fullness of that Kingdom to be realized in heaven.

Paul speaks of the “earthly tent” that we live in, acknowledging that our current bodies and circumstances are temporary. We face struggles and longings because we are not yet home. However, we are assured that our future is secure in Christ. This hope sustains us as we walk through life with the knowledge that our greatest desires will one day be fully fulfilled in heaven.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the hope of eternity. I know that this world is not my final home, and the longings I have now will one day be fully satisfied in Your presence. Help me to live with this eternal perspective, trusting that You are preparing a place for me where all pain and longing will cease. Give me strength to persevere through the “not yet” as I eagerly await the fullness of Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
