Day 18: What Happens When We Surrender
Surrender is one of the hardest things for us to do. In our human nature, we want to hold onto control, to navigate life on our terms, and to ensure outcomes that feel secure. But surrendering to God isn’t about giving up—it’s about giving over. It’s about placing our lives, our plans, and our burdens into the hands of the One who knows best and loves us most.
Think about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. As He prayed before His arrest, He faced unimaginable anguish. The weight of the world’s sin was upon Him, and He knew the suffering that awaited Him on the cross. Yet, during His pain, He prayed these words: “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
Jesus’ surrender wasn’t a sign of weakness—it was the ultimate act of trust. He knew that God’s plan was greater than the temporary pain He would endure. And because of His surrender, we have salvation, freedom, and eternal life.
Surrender doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean that we don’t have to carry the weight of control. When we surrender, we release our anxieties, our fears, and our need to figure everything out. In return, we gain peace, freedom, and the assurance that God is working all things for our good.
What is God asking you to surrender today? Is there a relationship you’ve been trying to control? A situation that feels overwhelming? A dream you’ve been holding tightly to? Take a moment to lay it before God. Say, “Lord, I don’t understand how this will work out, but I trust You. I surrender my plans, my timing, and my desires to You. Have Your way in my life.”
When we humble ourselves before the Lord, He promises to lift us up. Surrender isn’t the end of the story—it’s the beginning of something greater. Trust Him to do what only He can do.

About this Plan
Over the next 21 days, we are setting aside time to seek God intentionally—through fasting, prayer, and giving. Matthew 6 reminds us that these three practices draw us closer to the heart of God and position us to experience His faithfulness in extraordinary ways. Each day, we'll be walking with you through stories from Scripture, personal reflections, and encouragement for this journey. Take time to reflect, pray, and let God speak to you. We're believing that as we lean into this together, He will do above and beyond all we could ask or imagine.
