DAY 3 OF 5

David Chose Peace

I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

David was on the run for his life, yet he declared he could “lie down in peace and sleep.” His own son, Absalom, sought to kill him, but David still experienced peace. Would I be able to do the same in such dire circumstances? Could you?

David’s example teaches us a profound lesson: no matter what we face, God is with us, fighting for us, and taking care of us. David’s peace came from recalling God’s faithfulness in the past. God had never let him down. We have the same assurance.

Leadership is hard work. We face constant challenges, but God is present in each one. He knew what we’d face long before we did and has a plan to use it for His glory and our good. When we feel stressed and overwhelmed, we can remind ourselves of God’s track record. He is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9); He will never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6); He is with us in our storms (Matthew 8:26); we can trust Him with our needs (Philippians 4:19); and we have no need to fear (Philippians 4:6-7).

David’s confidence in God was so strong that, while on the run, he even offered wise counsel to his rebellious son’s followers (Psalm 4:2-5). That’s a powerful display of trust in God.

When life feels overwhelming, I’ve learned that shifting my focus to others helps me see things more clearly. If my challenges can serve as an encouragement to someone else, it strengthens my faith and reveals more of God’s nature.

David chose to look to God and honor Him, even in life-threatening circumstances. He could rest in peace because he trusted that God had everything under control.

Reflection Questions

  • How does David’s situation challenge your perception of peace?
  • How can you use your experience to impact someone in your sphere of influence?

Leadership Action

Share with others: Look for opportunities to encourage someone else in their challenges. Share how God’s faithfulness has impacted your life.

Let's Pray

Lord, we want to rely on You in every situation we face. Teach us what real peace looks like so that we can be the kind of leaders who keep our minds focused on what’s important to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
