EquipHer Vol. 9: "The Power of a Simple 'Yes' or 'No'"Sample
Day 2: The Strength of a Reliable Commitment
Learning to say "Yes" and "No" with sincerity is a key step in building a reputation of integrity. Every time we respond authentically, we create a bridge of trust that connects us with others—a bond rooted in the consistency of our words and actions.
But how can we ensure that our responses are always true and consistent? How can we make certain that every word we speak reflects our intentions and commitment?
A genuine "Yes" means we have carefully considered our resources and time. In essence, an honest "Yes" goes beyond the instinct to please others or the desire to always be available. Saying "No," on the other hand, is not a sign of weakness but of maturity. It’s an act of respect—for ourselves and others—because our words must reflect what we can truly deliver.
A life lived with integrity requires a conscious assessment of our abilities and limitations. This process begins with a dialogue with God: through prayer and reflection, we can seek His guidance to respond with clarity and honesty, while remaining true to our calling. We can also avoid creating expectations we cannot meet, which could lead to disappointing those who trust in our words.
Proverbs 12:22 reminds us: “Those who act faithfully are His delight.” Consistency in our words and actions is what honors God. When we remain faithful to our commitments, we lay a strong foundation of trust that enables us to honor others and live authentically.
Reflection Questions:
- How can I make my commitments more genuine and authentic?
- In what ways can I develop a better awareness of my limits to make decisions that align with what I can truly offer?
Prayer:
Lord, grant me the wisdom to make sincere and authentic choices without fear of saying "No" when needed. Help me remain faithful to my words and uphold my commitments with honesty and consistency, so that I may honor You in all I do. Amen.
