Chasing after God’s promises often leads us down dangerous paths. This is not by accident! God wants us to develop our faith and trust as we learn to go through life with Him. Take, for example, the promised land. God had told Abraham that the land of Canaan would be something his descendants would own forever (see Genesis 17:8), but when the time came for the Israelites to take the land, they were up against some major opposition.
Twelve spies were sent out to survey the situation. Ten came back and reported that the current people in the land were too large and too strong to defeat. Caleb and Joshua agreed with their assessment, except they knew that God would be fighting for them and that God always makes good on His promises. In the end, the Israelites let their fear win, and they spent forty years in the wilderness! God waited until this unfaithful generation died off before He brought His people into their new home. Only Caleb and Joshua survived to dwell in the beautiful land God had promised Abraham so many years earlier.
Remember: nothing has changed with God. He still keeps His promises. He still delivers His people through “impossible” situations. All we need to do is believe Him and step out in faith. In your world, with the “impossible” situation you’re facing, be a Caleb.

About this Plan
History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
