Jehoshaphat wasn’t a perfect man, but he was a good king. Scripture says: “The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him” (2 Chronicles 17:3; emphasis added). King David was the mark for the kings of Israel and Judah because he chased after God with all his heart and sought to please Him in everything. Jehoshaphat did, too. So, when God promised to give His people victory in battle over the enemies that were on their doorstep, King Jehoshaphat didn’t wait. He began the praise party while he was on the way to battle.
Here’s what’s amazing. The Bible tells us: “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated” (20:22; emphasis added). Their worship was the trigger that released the victory. Yes, God did it all. It was a miracle! But God used the faith of His people, expressed in their praise, to accomplish it. When we worship God, when things are hard, something happens in our hearts. Our faith gets strengthened. If you feel stuck, or if you’re in the waiting room on a prayer request, praise and watch as your heart shifts to strength.

About this Plan
History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
