Abide, Adore, Ask and Agree: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City ChurchSample
DAY 11
Not long after the people of Israel were delivered out of bondage in Egypt, they were attacked by a king named Amalek. Moses, Israel’s leader, told Joshua to choose men to go out and fight. During the battle, Moses stood on the top of the hill and lifted his hands. Exodus 17:11 tells us, “As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.”
As you can imagine, Moses’ arms grew tired, so two men – Aaron and Hur – supported him on each side. By the end of the day, the people of Israel completely overwhelmed the Amalekites. Moses responded by building an altar to the Lord and calling Him Jehovah-Nissi, “The Lord is my Banner.”
Where do we direct our strength when we are in the thick of a battle? While it is probably natural to lift our hands against our enemies, victory will come by lifting our hands towards heaven in praise and adoration of God. This is not to say we don’t take necessary actions or become passive with our problems, but instead, we actively pursue God and His solutions.
REFLECTION
1. Is there a battle you can never seem to win?
2. What would it look like to give that fight to the Lord?
PRAYER FOCUS
Pray for deliverance and victory.
