Tough Questions… Jesus’ AnswersSample
How’s Your Heart?
Walking with Jesus over three decades, I’ve had to contend for my heart. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is—as a Christian, my life rises and falls by what I allow—or don’t allow—into my heart.
Jesus highlights this truth in one of His most popular parables—The Parable of the Sower. Here, He focuses on receiving the seed of God’s Word within us. Really, this parable is all about the condition of our hearts.
You see friend, as we venture through life our hearts can grow calloused, wounded, and distracted. That’s why Proverbs 4:23 encourages us, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. We must tend to the soil of our hearts daily to make sure we’re receptive and responsive to God’s Word.
Jesus shows us the power of a receptive heart in Mark 4:8 by saying, “Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” Jesus is speaking here of the healthy soil of our hearts. A heart of great soil produces exponential fruit.
As you engage with God’s word:
● What is God saying to you?
● What does it mean to you?
● What action step do you need to take?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
