Preparing for Marriage Biblically

DAY 22 OF 31

GOD WANTS YOU TO HAVE AN IMPROVING MARRIAGE

God established the institution of marriage. However, it does not mean that there will not be conflicts in marriage. Conflicts are expected in marriage because two people with a lot of differences are coming together. Those conflicts must be properly resolved for peace to reign in the family and for the marriage to be a blessing. A lot of people come into marriage with great expectations but little preparation. People prepare well for their careers, businesses, and so on, but don’t put much preparation into marriage.

I had six years of courtship before I got married. It was not because I was afraid of marriage, but because I wanted to learn well before stepping into marriage. I functioned as the best man for practically all the minister-friends at that time, to the extent that the Chaplain at the Chapel once told me, “Man of God, the next time you are coming, bring your wife!” I was learning about what to do and what not to do in marriage during that period. I learnt from brothers who would leave their wives at home and come out to meet with their friends.

Also, note that there is no perfect marriage anywhere because there are no perfect people on earth. Just like you cannot have a perfect church, you cannot have a perfect marriage. A perfect church becomes imperfect the day you join them. So, I don’t believe you can have a perfect marriage, but you can have a victorious marriage; you can continually get better and improve in your marriage every day. Don’t think that you are going into a perfect marriage from day one when you marry. You will have an improving marriage as you begin to work on it and resolve conflicts through the wisdom of God.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive Your wisdom to make my marriage what will bring glory to You on earth. Amen!

About this Plan

Preparing for Marriage Biblically

Too many people today do little or no preparation when it comes to marriage; instead focusing their energy on a one-day wedding event! The Bible says, "Two are better than one, for they have a better reward!" For these results and rewards to follow your marriage, there is a preparation phase before marriage because it is when preparation and opportunity meet together that destinies happen.
