Consecrate a Fast: What is Fasting?

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that calls us to deny the desires of our flesh and fill ourselves up with God, His Word, and His presence. It unlocks supernatural activity and spiritual sensitivity. Fasting isn’t a time of emptiness but of spiritual abundance! We fast to draw closer to God and magnify His desires above our own. This is how we grow spiritually. You hear God when you fast. It’s not living off food, but living off His Word. Jesus modeled a life of prayer and fasting. The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to fast and before He began His ministry, He fasted. Fasting creates intimacy, positions us in the perfect will of God, and paves the way for miraculous power.

If you haven’t yet, name your fast. What are you fasting for? Ask God. Ask Him for a word or a phrase to hold onto this year and during this fasting season. Ask Him how He wants you to be postured in this fast and in 2023. How does He want you to come out of this time? Write the answers down and hold onto the words He says.

Prayer: God, I commit and dedicate these next 40 days to You. I offer these 40 days to You as a sacrifice as I submit my flesh to You. Lead me as I fast. I believe that Your power will be made perfect as I weaken my flesh. I hold nothing back from You over these next 40 days. Teach me Your ways, Lord, and make me more like You. Before I ask for anything, I just want to be close to You. Help me to grow spiritually over this time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
