We Belong Here

DAY 4 OF 5

When we decide to connect and merge ourselves into being involved meaningfully to a body, responsibilities are a part of the arrangement. The Bible does not shy away from pointing out our responsibilities with clarity, towards each other. As we analyze this scripture passage, we need to examine our own hearts.

Example of Responsibility 1

Romans 12:10 - Paul asks his readers to be devoted to one another in Love. The dictionary meaning of devotion is feeling or demonstrating loyalty. Synonyms of the word devoted include dedicated /steadfast. Let us be honest, that kind of devotion is not our natural drift.

Example of Responsibility 2

Look at Hebrews 10:34, and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. But considering to encourage one another may not be our natural drift.

Example of Responsibility 3

Hebrews 10:25 - Not giving up meeting together, but encouraging one another. For some of us, it is easier to get lazy or preoccupied and not often participate in community life. To be consistent requires effort. This really is not only about the weekly Sunday corporate worship, but also about the duty of being committed to encouraging one another. When you are faced with these duties that we have as Christians, what are your thoughts? What tools and resources do we need to stay on the right track in this regard? For some of us, we could be controlled by a sense of Legalism; for others, we could be inclined towards being licentious. And we realise that neither approach is parallel to the spirit of the Gospel

The writer of Hebrews explains on how this is to be done.. from verse 19. 19 ‘Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus’. Then he goes on to say three LET US statements. So, there’s obviously a connection between THEREFORE and LET US. The connection is Confidence in Jesus Christ and his work on the cross.

Friends, the connection is the Gospel. In Romans 12:1-2, Paul writes Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy…. He is clearly urging people to live a life of sacrifice in view of Gods mercy. In other words, we can only lead a sacrificial life if our minds and hearts are captivated by Jesus’ sacrifice…If we understand the depth of God’s mercy in forgiving our sins. Approaching our Christian duty and responsibilities in this way, is only due to grace of God and not due to the performance of man.

Question for Reflections

1. How can you make time and space in your daily lives to constantly reflect and ponder on Gods mercy through Jesus Christ until it renews and affects your mind and heart?
