What’s Blocking Your Breakthrough?
Have you ever been stymied, stuck, and frustrated? Does it seem like you're always fighting your way uphill? I’ve often heard people say, “I can’t catch a break”, “I’m waiting for my ship to come in”, or “I’m never lucky.” My answer to them as a therapist is “Go make a break!”, “Go swim out to the ship!”, and “Go and make your own luck by hard work and a good attitude.” Someone once said, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.”
In my experience, many of us have been crippled by our own childhood traumas. We’ve learned to be victims rather than victors. Can you relate to childhood trauma? None of us choose our birth family or the things that were done to us at an early age, but when we become adults, everything can change. We can learn to break through.
Paul wrote this amazing psychological observation in 1 Corinthians 13: “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” (vs.11, NIV)
Hey, now that you are an adult, you can make choices that will:
- Free you from abuse and lies
- Heal you from the damage from others
- Empower you to pursue your destiny
- Enable you to transform the lives of others
Wow. I needed to take these steps because I felt like a victim before I received Christ into my life. By 20, I wanted to kill myself. Depression had darkened my mind, so I tried to cope through drugs, relationships, or success. Nothing seemed to help me. The pain of my childhood had me trapped in a victim mentality until the Spirit of God started to fill my mind and transform my thinking. Philippians 4:8-9 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (NIV)
What’s been blocking your anointing, gifts, and passions? Is it fear or the pains of your past? Today is a good day to allow faith, hope, and love to free you from your past. 1 Corinthians 13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (vs.13, NIV)
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the strength to overcome your past and choose a new destiny for your life. Your anointing is just waiting for you to grab it, or you can allow it to sit there, neglected and unused. I know you will break through into your calling because you're a miracle.
