SoulSister: Renewing Your Soul With the Word of GodSample
The Little Bitty Spider
One day, I was driving behind a gold minivan. I had my window down because the weather was nice. I looked over to my left and saw a little bitty spider making its way into my car. I completely forgot I was driving and turned all my attention to getting this spider out of my car. Seconds later, BANG! I hit the minivan in front of me. I remember it like it was yesterday. I felt terrible that I hit the van and stupid that I let a little bitty spider cause such a huge mess. I honestly forgot I was driving.
This is often what happens to us in our journey of life. We are riding along, doing well, staying focused on our race, staying in our lane, and then in a quick moment, something little bitty tries to come into our view to distract us. Next thing you know, we have turned our eyes from Jesus and the call God has on our life. We allow that little bitty thing to stop us, slow us down, or make us quit.
In life, those things are going to show up and they will seem magnified, just like that spider. In that moment, that spider seemed so huge and dangerous to me. Because my mind and soul was so convinced of that, I allowed my flesh to control everything else around me. I could've gotten hurt, or worse, I could've hurt others all because I allowed something so small to be magnified.
Let’s not magnify little bitty issues or little bitty setbacks. Even if the setbacks seem gigantic in the moment, remember nothing is as big as our God. When we do lose focus, let’s get back in the race and get our eyes back on what matters, which is Jesus Christ and the life he gave us to live.
Soul Check:
ASK: Am I allowing little things to be big things in my life?
SPEAK: “God, I will keep my eyes on….”
COMMAND: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
DECLARE: God, I thank You for Your strength that will enable me to keep my eyes on You.
Think About It
1. Think about a time when something little bitty came into your life to cause a distraction.
2. What is something negative in your life that is being magnified?
3. Is there an area in your life where you need to get back in the race? If so, what steps can you take this week to move towards that goal?
