Carriers of His Presence
What if we all started living out the reality that God left the building over two millenniums ago? What would happen if we believers could truly grasp that "the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom," (Matthew 27:51 NIV) and we are now carriers of the presence of Jesus? I get it - it's super convenient to keep God pinned to a GPS location, where it's easy to flip the switch on and off by simply getting in our cars and driving away from the steeple, but what if we could buy the truth that Christ lives in us?
A few years back, Lindsey and I started hosting monthly house gatherings with friends and family and each time takes us closer to the heartbeat of God. Every meeting starts with a meal and leaves us with a shot of vitamin B straight to our souls to take home. New songs and waves of creativity happen before and after. Shouts of deliverance rattle the windows and doorposts of our home as atheists, bartenders, worship pastors, and children alike find their cure. The only limit we’ve run into is our own faith. Just like the woman with the olive oil jars in 2 Kings chapter 4, God will fill whatever we place in front of Him. If we give Him our Sunday, He’ll fill it. If we give Him our building, He’ll fill it. If we give Him our tithe, He’ll multiply it. If we give Him our homes, He’ll saturate them. The question is, how far will we go? To what extent of faith and the outer known will we place in His Hands?
The sheer panic, fear, and confusion that gripped America in March of 2020 when we all learned that we could be carriers of this new super-disease outlines a beautiful paradigm if we're willing to see it. Paul writes in Ephesians 6:12 that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but...against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms," and I can't help but think what panic, fear, and confusion would grip the ranks of darkness if we Christians realized the type of carriers that we are!
Lindsey and I’s greatest desire for this short devotion series is that you would open up your hearts and homes as sanctuaries for the Lord to dwell. No more Sunday-only Savior. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom, and I believe the oppression of fear and anxiety has lasted long enough. Let’s take back what the enemy stole and restore our calling as carriers of His presence.

Carry the convo:
1. What is keeping you from carrying the presence of God in every area of your life?
2. What does following Jesus look like outside of Bible studies, mission trips, and Sunday church?
3. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." In what ways have we lost sight of this in caring for our friends and loved ones? How can we fix it?
