Giving is Gaining | Living a Generous LifeSample
Do you want an abundant life?
Would you like to live an abundant life? I hope your answer is yes. Or maybe it’s “What’s an abundant life?”
The Bible tells us that Jesus gave an amazing revelation to His disciples: “‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.’” (John 10:10, NKJV)
Did you know there are two unseen entities with very different agendas?
Jesus wants to give you the abundant life. That means your life will be overflowing. Have you ever had too much? Have you ever seen a root beer float? It’s a great picture of the intentions of Jesus. Try this experiment: take a scoop of ice cream and place it in a large glass. Then add root beer or coke and watch the overflowing results.
Jesus promises, “‘Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.’” (Luke 6:38, NIV)
When you give, God starts blessing you in ways seen and unseen. You will have too much, and you will have to give more away. Then God will give you more because He’s always true to His Word.
I left home when I was just 16 years old. Although I lived with a super family for a short while, I learned to be independent. I refused to listen to my father, so he vowed to remove any support I needed for university, meals, or lodging. As an 18-year-old, I had to fend for myself. I remember working dead-end jobs, fighting to pay for school tuition and scrounge up enough money for food. I understand poverty and the fear and desperation that can cripple a life.
When I accepted Christ, my mentor challenged me to give tithes and offerings to God and be generous to the poor. Wow! That made me so angry. My fear kicked in. I eventually overcame my fear and started to give. Initially, it was small amounts. But then the blessings started to flow, and I gave more and more.
I’m praying you will “give like crazy’’ as well because you are no longer controlled by fear but by love and faith. You will live the abundant life because you are trusting in the promises of God.
Because you’re a miracle.
