Key Beliefs: Supporting Basic BeliefsSample
The Lord’s Supper
The Corinthians had adopted a strange way of celebrating the Lord’s Supper. They had turned it into a full meal, and everyone brought their own food. Wealthy people brought lots of expensive food and ate it right in front of poor and hungry people. Paul condemns their selfish behavior and tells them they need to consider their relationship with God before participating. With baptism, trusting Jesus was enough. With the Lord’s Supper, it is important to consider our attitude towards God and others. A person choosing to live a life disobedient to God is insulting Jesus’ death when participating in the Lord’s Supper.
