There's Hope For Today

DAY 318 OF 366

Let me give you a thumbnail sketch for a new screenplay. I’m sure the idea has been tried a few times, but here goes. Our movie would center on a man who suffers a sudden and comprehensive amnesia. He wakes up one morning to a life he does not recognize.

While all treat him with affection and familiarity, he does not recognize the woman who claims to be his wife, nor the children who call him Daddy. He is a blank page. For our movie to have any chance of being made, we must somehow resolve his dilemma. We could introduce a love interest to grant the man a new identity (sigh). We could have the man fall in love all over again with his wife (how sweet). We could have his memory restored through some dramatic mechanism (eureka!). We might even grant him some extrasensory powers in the post-traumatic phase of the story (sci-fi).

While we have many options open on the writer’s table, there is one storyline that will sink our picture: We could leave the man in a state of confused ignorance. But without identity, we have no story! So it is with Christ in the Scriptures. He must be God’s only begotten Son; God in flesh. If we cannot fully establish His identity, we have no story.
