There's Hope For Today

DAY 231 OF 366

There are some people you need to write out of your life! Paul identifies them as “divisive.” These folks have a keen ability to drive wedges, stir-up strife, twist words, and change colors like a chameleon.

You’re kidding yourself if you think you can fix what is wrong with a truly “divisive” person. You will exhaust yourself in the process. You might as well spend a year trying to convince your dog that he’s really a cat! Paul offers grace in the form of two warnings. Beyond the second warning he recommends a complete severance.

Some may think that your withdrawal from a divisive person is “un-Christian.” Paul indicates that withdrawal is the “Christian” thing to do. When you’re confronted with a divisive person, remember Paul’s qualified words: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18 NIV).

Living at peace does not indicate a close intimate relationship. Sometimes peace is the best we can do. Realize that you can only hold up your end of a relationship. A divisive person will never hold up their end. Don’t waste your time trying to tame a crocodile. When you’re dealing with a divisive personality, it’s only a matter of time until you get bit.
