The Hope Quotient

DAY 43 OF 60

Do you know anyone wracked with guilt who feels the slightest sense of hope? I don’t.

The Bible is clear about this—the minute you place your faith in Christ you are forgiven and freed from your past. You’re in the family of God. You’re a son! You’re a daughter! You have all the rights of a child of God, adopted into his family by grace through your faith in Christ.

Think of it like this. I am a dad to four kids. How would I feel, as a parent, if my son came home and said, “Oh, Dad, I’m not worthy to be called your son. Just let me live in the garage. Let me eat the crumbs off your table.” While from a financial perspective this might seem like an excellent idea, I wouldn’t hear of it. I’d pick him up, straighten his shoulders, and say, “What are you talking about? You’re my son. Get in here! Eat with us. Live with us. And start acting like you’re part of this family because you are.”

We honor God most when we say, “God, I know I’m Your child. I know I’m forgiven through my faith in Christ. I believe You have great things in store for me, and I am choosing to let go of my past.”

I like it when my children face the world with confidence. I like it when they feel they’re something special. I like it when they get home from school and go straight to the fridge. They don’t ask for permission. They don’t beg, “Oh most beneficent Father, thou who feedeth us, clotheth us, and provideth for our every need, I beseech thee, can I have a Coke?” That would be crazy. They march in there like they own the place. Why? Because they know they’re part of our family.

Think Up:

To become the person God intended you to be, you need a strong sense of confidence.

Guilt will assassinate your hope and leave you muttering in the dark. Let it go. (Read on).
