Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ ... 2 Corinthians 5:20 NKJV
It is the sworn duty of an ambassador of a country or kingdom to project the most accurate image of his home country to his host country. It is no different for the believer. As the representative of the Kingdom of God, he has a sacred duty to conduct all his affairs in a way that reflects and projects the image of the Kingdom of God.
It is possible for a believer to conduct his affairs in such a way that the Scripture becomes fulfilled in his life, which says “... the world speaks evil of God because of you.” (Romans 2:24 TLB). It is, on the other hand, possible for you to “let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:16 TLB)
When thinking about building a brand, the proper way to view it is actually that you are building a life whose aroma inevitably permeates all that you do. The improper way is to go at it like the Pharisees of Jesus' day who were obsessed with keeping up appearances, and to whom the Lord said, “Woe to you Pharisees, and you religious leaders – hypocrites! You are so careful to polish the outside of the cup, but inside is foul with extortion and greed.” (Matthew 23:25 TLB)
“Extortion and greed”? Jesus could as well have been speaking to many of today's business leaders. Today, businesses hire world-class public relations companies and go to great lengths to polish the external image of the company even as internal corporate culture is built on the sinking mire of greed.
What might the Lord say about your current approach to brand building? Pause and think about that.
Spend time today, and for the rest of this week searching your heart before the Lord, and asking Him to help root out hypocrisy wherever it may have been lodged in there. Then ask the Lord to help you (even as you lead your company) become a true ambassador of His Kingdom.
