Sex, Purity, And The Longings Of A Girl's HeartSample
Finally Satisfied
We, as women, look to many different things for satisfaction. We turn to money, jewelry, sex, fitness, marriage, men, riches. . . and the list could go on and on. We seek out these things in hopes of finding true peace. True joy. True satisfaction. We never find them though. In fact, nothing on earth could ever fully satisfy because we were made for something more.
If we want to experience the true pleasures Christ can offer, we have to look to Him. “In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Ps. 16:11). This verse describes everything we actually desire. We desire fullness of joy. We desire pleasures forevermore. In Christ, those things become our reality.
Although our sexuality is an integral part of who we are, God never planned for it to be the central focus of our lives. Our sexual design is intended to point us to the depth of God’s love for us. It’s meant to show us how profoundly He cares for us and in return how much we should love Him. When we fail to cherish God and find our complete happiness in Him, we miss the main point.
It’s also important to understand that living out God’s design for our sexuality isn’t about simply doing better or trying harder or getting rid of immoral things from our lives. If we do all those “right” things but fail to have a personal relationship with Christ, we will have overlooked the most important thing. We can’t get so caught up in “trying hard” that we neglect the One we should ultimately be cherishing. The more we focus our eyes on Christ, the easier it will be to embrace His design for our sexuality.
What does it look like to actually cherish Jesus? Think about it in this way: When you cherish another, you are simply caring for them deeply. You love that person and long to be with them. You value time spent together and the communication that follows. This is the essence of what it is to cherish Christ. You care for Him deeply. You love Him. You long to be with Him. It’s an understanding that by cherishing Him, you find the satisfaction your soul is truly longing for.
Think of one person you really love. What do you do to pursue and cherish that relationship? What would it look like if you treasured and cherished your relationship with Christ in the same way?
