“Saviors of the World” Devotional

Though no human alive is the Savior, only Jesus is the Savior, we often refer to those in life-saving roles – such as policemen or firefighters – as “heroes” or “saviors.” In a spiritual sense, God has called for us to help “save” others.

In Matthew 28, Jesus issues the Great Commission, urging us out of the pews and into the world to “make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19) He literally wants to use us to “save others by snatching them from the fire.” (Jude 23:23)

Through acts of violence and hatred, humans are destroying each other and the world. If we do not speak out against violence and hatred, the world will slowly destroy itself. Yet, too many Christians are simply awaiting “rapture.” We view this life as evil and we fail to see the eternity in the earth. 

But look around! God’s apparent goodness and artistry is on display throughout this planet we presently call “home.”

The end has come

Paradise is lost 

We wonder what we've done

Riches rust 

The iron fist 

Crashes down on the powerless 

But hope can live again … 

As His followers, He has equipped us to be wise stewards of His Creation, and that includes people. By our redeemed lives, our love for each other, and our love for goodness and mercy and justice, we are purposed to keep unrighteousness and hatred and murder at bay. He has called you and me to be the plumb line of righteousness to the world. 

The earth is waiting for the “children of God to be revealed.” (Romans 8:19) In the meantime, God is calling us to be of saving service to our fellow man.

We are kings and conquerors 

And I won't bow to you

They will not control us 

We will not conform no anymore

We are the saviors
