Worshipping inspires our everyday speech

Lord, please help me to guard my tongue. I ask for the wisdom and grace to respond with words that will bless rather than criticism or complaint.

In our gathered worship we learn new responses. In a world of grumbling, we learn to recognise blessings and give thanks for them. In a world that reacts to suffering with despair or cynicism, we learn words of lament that are rooted in hope. In a world where we fear the stranger, we learn to greet others in the name of Jesus and allow love to cast out fear. “Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness.” (Mother Teresa)
