Friend in High Places: 5-Day Devotional

"Yeah, I'm livin' proof
What a carpenter from Nazareth can do
How a hammer and a nail can make things new
And I don't know why he cares
Enough to turn His head and hear my prayers
Leave Heaven when He could have just stayed there
Really don't seem fair, no it don't seem fair"

Those of us who have faith in Christ and what He has done for us, who have repented of our sin, and answered the call to follow Him, are living proof of what Jesus has done and continues to do. Why does He even care about us? Because He created us, and He longs to be in community with us, like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in community with each other. Not that we are the fourth member of the Trinity, but that we are God's children, who He longs to spend time with and enjoy as we sit in His Presence.

We read in Genesis where God says let US create man in OUR image. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together at the beginning of time, always existed and will exist eternally. Jesus, sitting on the Throne in Heaven, empties Himself out by leaving Heaven and becoming an infant. Placed into the womb of a virgin, He is born not with an Earthly father who carried the sinful blood as a descendant of Adam. Rather, He is born from the Spirit of God with Untainted Blood.

God incarnate, God in the flesh, His name is Jesus. He picks up the trade of His Earthly father, a carpenter from the dirt-poor town of Nazareth. The King of the Universe, becoming a normal working person like most of us. Obedient to the Heavenly Father, He carried out His Mission by going to the Cross. God's Word reads there can be no remission of sin without the shedding of blood. Jesus, the Lamb of God, becomes the Sacrifice as He pours out His Blood on a Cross at Cavalry. Dying the death of a lowly person. This really doesn't seem fair. Probably the most unjust penalty in the history of punishment.

God being rich in Mercy, sent His Son as a Sacrifice to pay the penalty.

Jesus, being obedient to His Heavenly Father, paid the price by shedding His precious Blood.

Sinners like us, are set free from the bondage of sin, worshipping a Holy God, in awe of what He has done for us.

And this same Jesus, the Ruler of the Universe calls us friend! How unbelievable is that?

I guess we truly do have a Friend in High Places!
