After a long, hard day’s work, the disciples came to Jesus and told Him all the things they had done and taught. They were so busy that they did not even have time to eat!
Jesus commanded them to get some rest and departed with them by boat to a place of solitude. This planned time of rest was quickly interrupted, as people from the shore watched and followed the boat. When the boat came to its destination, many people crowded Jesus and His disciples. Rather than become frustrated, Jesus was moved with compassion towards these people. Jesus showed that He cared more for the needs of others than He did for His own.
