Ch 50-51 continue the section of oracles against the nations (see the notes from yesterday)

Jer 52 Fall of Jerusalem and its aftermath

The fall of Jerusalem has already been recounted in the book in ch39, but it is recounted again in ch52 (borrowing from 2 Kings 24-25). The reason for this repetition is that Ch 52 is a postscript showing Jeremiah’s prophecies to have come true. This vindicates him as a true prophet (Deu 18:12-22).

Note how Jeremiah, like the book of Kings, ends on a hopeful note (52:31-34).
