God’s Will Is Above All

DAY 1 OF 5

God’s Will Is Above All

ABOVE FAMILY

MAIN IDEAS:

• Jesus’ attitude contradicts the “family before all else” principle and restores the “God before family” principle.

• Also, Jesus establishes a new principle regarding family: whoever turns to God receives a new spiritual family with whom they will spend eternity.

• The family we are born in on this earth is temporary, while the spiritual family is ours for eternity.

• Jesus’ teachings regarding the New Covenant are approached from an eternal perspective.

At first glance, it might seem that JESUS does not show enough respect to His family. It seems true if we only look at the situation from an earthly perspective; that is how earthly people think. But JESUS shows all realities of life from an eternal perspective. When we look at our family from an eternal perspective, we understand that our earthly family is a temporary gift, that only lasts during our physical presence here on earth. At the same time, when someone enters the KINGDOM, they receive a godly family with which they can not only spend the rest of their life here on earth, but also their eternity. When looking at things from this perspective, our earthly family should no longer captivate our entire attention and care. Thus, “family before all else” turns into “God before family”. It is possible that when a person turns to GOD, they may lose the understanding and the support of their earthly family, but this should not deter them from obeying GOD. GOD asks us to not disregard or neglect our family, but it would be a mistake to put family above obeying GOD. Heeding God’s advice is more important than not upsetting your earthly family.
If you can maintain your relationship with GOD without compromising your relationship with your family, it is wonderful. What is important is that you do this with no compromise.
