Finding Refuge in God
Focus: God is your safe place and refuge. When everything feels overwhelming, you can find shelter in Him—your protector and defender. Rest in Him.
Scripture: The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (Psalm 9:9)
Where to Find Peace and Protection
I grew up in Louisiana, a place well-known for hurricanes. Hurricane Katrina is notably one of the most memorable hurricanes in recent history due to its sheer size and destruction. When I hear "refuge," I immediately think of fleeing from danger and getting to the safest place possible.
Life's storms can come out of nowhere, catching us off guard and leaving us vulnerable and exposed. Whether it's the chaos of everyday life, unexpected challenges, or deep personal struggles, we all have moments when we feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to turn. In these moments, we need a place of safety—a refuge where we can find peace, protection, and strength.
The Bible assures us that God is our refuge. Psalm 9:9 declares, "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble." This verse paints a picture of God as a safe haven where we can run when the Hurricane Katrinas of life feels too heavy, chaotic, or painful to bear. He is our protector and defender, ready to shelter us from the storms surrounding us.
But what does it indeed mean to find refuge in God? How do we rest in Him when everything around us seems to fall apart?
God's Invitation for Shelter & Safety
God invites us to find refuge in Him. He is not a distant deity but a close and caring protector who offers us a place of safety and peace in His Word through prayer and His people (community). It is not just a comforting thought—it's a reality we can experience when we turn to God in our moments of need.
God's refuge is not just about physical safety; it's about finding rest for your soul and strength to face whatever comes your way.
God is your refuge, your protector, and your safe place. No matter what you face, you can always find shelter in Him. He is here, offering you His peace, protection, and unwavering support.
Questions:
- How can you lean on His strength rather than handle everything alone when life gets overwhelming?
- When you think of God as your refuge, what comes to mind?
Challenge: Find a quiet space today and invite God's presence. Reflect on how He is a refuge and safe place for you now.

यस योजनाको बारेमा
Domestic violence is the systematic way one person tries to gain power and control over another person physically, emotionally, sexually, spiritually, economically, or psychologically. It is not God's desire for human beings to interact with one another in this way. Instead, God calls everyone to love each other, as outlined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
