Shine For All To See..

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matt‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

On this last day of this devotion let’s focus on verse 16, which says: “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all the world to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”

In the same way..? In the same way that light automatically fills darkness, let your good deeds automatically reach people around you.

We don’t need to announce our good deeds or post about them or make sure everyone knows we are doing them, we just need to actually do them. Doing the next kind thing should be so automatic that we don’t really think it’s that big a deal. This is because the good deed we do is more about the people we do it for than the actual good deed we do.

Jesus said everyone will know we follow Him because of the way we love each other (John 13:35). We don’t need to announce that we are a Christian. We simply show we are by the good deeds we do for people all around us.

The world is hurting. People are wandering around in the darkness, looking for direction, desperate for answers, and we have a hope that is like an anchor for the soul (Heb 6:19).

How you live today could be the light at the end of somebody’s dark tunnel. You could be a lighthouse in their stormy night at sea, or even a flickering candle in the lonely moments of despair.

Prayer:

God, You are filling me with light and You are helping me light up the world. You are making me to be like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. You shine in me brightly for all to see. Help me to notice the needs in people around me and respond quickly to love people the way You love them. Amen.
